HISTORIC RICHMOND FOUNDATION'S MAIN STREET STATION GALA
ON OCTOBER 18th
September
12, Richmond, VA - Historic Richmond Foundation (HRF) announced
today that Dominion will be the title sponsor of HRF's Main Street
Station Inaugural Gala on October 18, 2003. The Gala will celebrate
the restoration of the 102-year old Main Street Station, a landmark
building in Richmond. All proceeds from the Gala will benefit
HRF's preservation projects, including the National Theatre (c1923),
Monumental Church (c1812), and the Byrd Park Pump House (c1890).
"Dominion
has been an invaluable supporter of the Foundation's activities
for many years," said Donald L. Charles, executive director
of HRF. "The Main Street Gala is an important fundraiser
for HRF, and their sponsorship will ensure its success."
"Richmond
has a proud and diverse architectural heritage," said William
C. Hall, Jr., Dominion's vice president of external affairs and
corporate communications. "Sponsoring the Main Street Gala
is part of our commitment to the Foundation and the important
preservation work it does."
Current
corporate sponsors include First Market Bank/Ukrop's, Philip Morris,
SunTrust, LandAmerica Financial Group, Performance Food Group,
Commonwealth Architects, Owens & Minor, Home Builders Association
and the William Byrd Branch of the Association for the Preservation
of Virginia Antiquities.
The
Gala will begin with cocktails in the station at 7pm and will
include a sit-down dinner and music by Paul Ross and the Kadillacs.
It is open to the public; tickets are $200 per person and can
be purchased by calling HRF at 804.643.7407. For more information,
please visit the website at www.historicrichmond.com/mainstgala.html.
Federal,
state and local government resources are restoring the building
to serve as a new transportation center for downtown Richmond.
The $48.2 million renovation of the Main Street Station property
into a multi-modal transportation center will serve Amtrak, Greyhound,
GRTC buses, airport shuttles, taxis and tour buses at one centralized
location. It will become Greater Richmond's Travel and Welcome
Center.
Built
in 1901 when passenger trains were king, Main Street Station is
a Beaux Arts masterpiece with the largest intact train tressle
in the United States. The train shed in the back is one of the
last of its kind in the country. Since the station closed in the
1970s, the building has been used for restaurants and a shopping
center.
